Class matches scope. 140-class graders (about 3.7m blade, 160-190hp) handle typical residential and commercial platform finishing, municipal road maintenance, and smaller-scale civil work. 160-class graders (about 4.3m blade, 220-250hp) are the workhorse for larger civil sites, subgrade preparation, road formation, and industrial platform finishing. Mining-class graders (16M equivalents and above, 4.9m+ blade, 275hp+) are configured for continuous haul road maintenance and open-cast mining production. We confirm the right class against your specification tolerance, area to be graded, and programme at quoting stage.
Do your graders come with operators?
Yes. All Powercall Civils grader hire is operator-driven. Grader operation is one of the most experience-dependent skills on any earthworks site — final levels, cross-slope, and camber are matters of feel and repetition, not just blade position. An experienced grader operator gets a platform right in one pass; an inexperienced one takes three and often misses tolerance anyway. We do not supply dry hire on graders.
What level of precision can a grader hold?
It depends on operator, target tolerance, and pass count. Typical platform earthworks work to ±25mm on the final finished surface. Road subgrade preparation typically to ±15mm. Asphalt basecourse and higher-precision finishing to ±10mm. GPS-guided grade control is available where the specification and project scale justify it, and reduces both operator dependence and pass count on precision work.
Can you handle continuous haul road maintenance on active mining sites?
Yes. Mining haul road maintenance is not a periodic activity — it is a continuous shift obligation. Correctly maintained haul road profile protects truck tyres (a significant cost line on mining operations), maintains fleet cycle time by keeping road speed up, and reduces fuel consumption across the whole haulage operation. Graders are deployed alongside water tankers for dust suppression and moisture conditioning, with continuous coverage matched to the shift pattern of the mining operation.
